Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?
When first researching, our original ideas were changed e.g.
Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product
Since starting this project I have created an:
- Google account
- Bloggers account
- Youtube account
- Using the camera
- Using the MacBook and Mac desktops comfortably
- Using Garage Band software
- Working in a group to create an film opening
Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Disney was the original distributor of high school musical, This company specialises in family films and teen films, it also has a few channels belonging to them, this includes:
- Disney channel:
- Disney Junior:
- Disney movies:
- Disney channel +1
Chicago original in 1975 was broadway production also at the west end.
Chicago remake in 2002 was a film distributed by Miramax films.
Hairspray original in 1988 was distributd by the New Line Cinema production.
Hairspray remake in 2007 was distributed by New Line cinema again.
Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our protagonist represents teenagers exploring the big city in order to boost their music career. As well as being young, our protagonist was used to get the 'small girl in the big city' effect, this worked well as our protagonist was short. Also as well as using colourful clothes to emphasis the genre, the colourful clothes was used to express her individuality and to make her stand out in the grey dull city. Stereotypically young people are known for wanting to travel and explore, because this is our protagonists first time in the city she is amazed which was important to the audience to show she was new to the area. Commonly on same films the music artist travels to the big city in order to get recognised and famous. At the beginning the high angle camera shot is used to exaggerate how small she is however the low angle shot shows her face looking up at the surroundings of the city.
Our second character represents the busy city people with personality features of being ignorant, impatient and rude. Commonly people who work in the city are dressed in black and grey, this worked well as our second character matched the stereotype accurately, also being taller, the second character, the second character is more intimidating to the smaller protagonist, no words are exchanged as the second character had no time to talk in her 'busy life'. Also people in the city are usually in a rush and hate being slowed down. As the second character was not the focus of the opening, we did not spend to long focusing on her.

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
After researching and analysing existing musicals we used the conventions of the musical genre and applied it to our musical opening e.g.
- Colourful clothes were used to emphasis the genre as after research most people on musicals stand out.
- A production card strongly relevant to the genre was used.
- A busy city with the location being famous for theatres and musicals was used as we thought that this may have helped re-enforce the genre.
- A stage and a spotlight was used over the protagonist to emphasise the genre as the protagonist was just about to perform a song.
- Over the shoulder shots are not common in musicals but in our musical opening we used the camera shot to show the audience what the protagonist was looking at (a map and a musical production leaflet) instead of using a point of view shot.
Lambeth City Learning Centre
On the on thursday, Dunraven's media classes got an opportunity to complete a Garage band workshop on the Mac computers at Lambeth CLC. This helped me to grow confidence using a new program in making music and I appreciated being a part of the Workshop very much. Here I have a screen grab from the Garage band workshop.
The diagram
Near the beginning of the project after creating a mood board and picking and researching 3 musical openings we wrote down on a large A3 sized paper all the things we will consider putting into our musical.
